1 / 20

Refer to figure.
Determine the maximum wind speed permitted for take-off considering the following information:

Runway direction: 060°
Wind direction: 180°M
Maximum allowable tailwind component: 10 kt

  • A

    12 kt

  • B

    15 kt

  • C

    17 kt

  • D

    20 kt

Refer to figure.
The figure helps to determine the Head/Tailwind and Crosswind Components.

For this question determine the Maximum Wind Speed permitted for take-off with the following manner:

  1. The angle difference between the runway direction and the wind direction is: 180° - 060° = 120°.
  2. Enter the graph from the vertical axis with Maximum Tailwind Component -10 kt and draw a horizontal line until the radius 120°.
  3. The intersection between the radius 120° and the horizontal line, gives the Maximum Wind Speed: 20 kt.

NOTES:

1. This graph is not in CAP 758, but actually in CAP 698 for fixed-wing performance and according to feedback it has appeared in exam questions.

2. The runway direction is always magnetic.
