The spin axis of a rate of turn indicator gyroscope is parallel to the..
  • A
    normal axis.
  • B
    longitudinal axis.
  • C
    roll axis.
  • D
    lateral axis.

Refer to figure.
The rate of turn indicator shows the rate at which the aircraft is changing its direction and consists of a rate gyro with its spin axis mounted along the lateral axis of the aircraft. It has only one gimbal, providing the turn indicator’s rate gyro only one degree of freedom. This freedom is limited by a restraining spring by connecting the gimbal to the outer case of the instrument.

Here are the main properties of the gyroscopic instruments you need to know:

Instrument Degrees of freedom Spin axis
Directional gyro 2 horizontal
Artificial horizon 2 vertical
Rate of turn indicator 1 horizontal
